Latest Update
Duane and Carin Gurthrie have moved to La Paz as of July 2010. They have spent the last year in Cochabamba, Bolivia. They are currently in the language acquisition and cultural adaptation phase of their ministry. In the future, they will work alongside our partner, the Bolivian Baptist Union in an Integral Mission center there where they will focus on Grassroots Leadership Development and Urban Community Development. The El Alto area of La Paz is the fastest growing urban center in Latin America. There are over 50 Baptist churches and congregations. Their skills and experience will be useful in helping small business entrepreneurs benefit from micro-enterprise loans through The Sharing Way. They will also coordinate extension education programs from the Baptist Theological Seminary.
The Guthries are members of New Life Community Baptist Church in Duncan, British Columbia. Over the past five years they felt God’s pull towards fulltime ministry, so after spending fifteen years in the business world, they sought the Lord’s direction for the next chapter in their lives – a search which culminated in a CBM short term mission trip to Kenya in July of 2007. Following their return to Canada, God made it more and more clear to them that He was leading them on a journey that included fulltime overseas service.
Duane and Carin are parents of twins, Caleb and Paige.
