December 20, 2016

Urgent prayers are requested for DR Congo, as December 19, 2016 is the end of the term for the current president, resulting in a new government the next day. However, elections have not been held, resulting in great political difficulty and high tension in the country as politicians could not reach an agreement, with the risk of the president denying the constitution and refusing to leave office. Failing to do so will increase the likelihood of major violence and government abuses in the coming days and weeks, according to Human Rights Watch. Despite the number of heavily armed soldiers guarding the streets, clashes are still reported to have resulted in certain places, where people have been killed. Please pray for the people and government of DR Congo, for a peaceful resolution to be swiftly achieved and for violence to end.
