Syrian refugees in Lebanon are facing yet another winter in tents and make-shift shelters, having to face heavy snows, cold temperatures, and flooding. More than 1 million Syrians are enduring this winter as refugees in Lebanon, and for some it is their fifth year in a row, “displaced by a war that has driven 4.4 million Syrians into neighbouring states from where many are trying to reach Europe” (UK Reuters). The need for fuel, blankets, mattresses, clean water, food and shelter remain. The Canadian government has extended its Syria Emergency Relief Fund, which now runs until February 29 – every dollar donated by individual Canadians to registered Canadian charities, will be matched dollar to dollar.
