Remembering Myrtle Bannister

Former CBM missionary to Kenya, Myrtle Bannister, passed away on peacefully on November 30, 2013, surrounded by her family.  Myrtle is also the mother of CBM missionary Tim Bannister, who was able to be with her when she died.

Myrtle was born in Cody’s, New Brunswick on Sept. 27, 1928.  Myrtle and her husband Elwood “Al” served in Kenya with CBM from 1981-1985, working with the African Brotherhood Church in Mitaboni. Prior to going to Kenya, Myrtle served faithfully alongside her husband in pastoral ministry in New Brunswick and in his teaching and leadership roles at Atlantic Baptist College.  Following her elementary education in a one room school in rural New Brunswick and high school in Sackville, NB, Myrtle studied at Mount Allison University and at Gordon College, where she met her husband.  They were married in 1952 after Myrtle completed her Bachelor of Religious Education degree at Gordon.

Myrtle is survived by her five children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.  The CBM family express their sympathies to the Bannister family on their loss.  The funeral for Myrtle will be held at Sussex Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11:00 am.
