Duane and Carin Guthrie
Duane and Carin have been working with CBM since 2008 in the area of Sustainable Community Development. Starting out in Bolivia, Duane and Carin were catalysts for the establishment of a ministry movement to the marketplace, involving business and church leaders throughout the country. A growing and vibrant movement, marketplace ministry seeks to reach out to those who work throughout the world’s economies, global and local, in order to develop Kingdom impact, through integral mission, in the area most of us spend most of our time, at work.
Through a series of events, Duane and Carin, in consultation with CBM leadership, began to explore the global movement of marketplace ministry and began to receive requests to work in S.E. Asia. After a season of discernment it was decided that a transition was needed and in July 2015 the Guthries transitioned to Manila, Philippines to be closer to the partners and staff in the region.
Deeply committed to the poor, their work includes discipleship and mentoring of entrepreneurs, business leaders, and church leaders in order to teach principles of integral mission, connecting congregations and individuals to a biblical understanding of work, peace, justice, and reconciliation, through holistic approaches to Christ-like ministry conducted to, in, and through the marketplace.
The Guthries spent 15 years in the business world before feeling that God was calling them to new ministry. After a short-term mission trip to Kenya with CBM in 2007, they were convinced that God was leading them to global service and they joined CBM shortly thereafter. They have two children, twins Caleb and Paige.
