Alcoholics Rehabilitation and Transformation
The Alcoholics Rehabilitation and Transformation (ART) program aims to rehabilitate and transform the lives of people who engage in alcohol abuse and supports the Ao-Naga community in North-East India by promoting alcohol addiction prevention and awareness. Support this project with financial contributions and prayer.
The Situation
Since 1992, Alempang Baptist Church (ABC) has ministered in the city of Mokokchung. Most of the mountainous region’s population are part of the Ao-Naga Tribe where agriculture is a main source of income for the community. With no substantial employment opportunities offered by other industries, unemployment and school dropout rates are high. Levels of alcohol addiction and related problems such as financial crisis, health problems, and untimely death have been rising in the community. A high percentage of the individuals struggling with addiction are unemployed or earn a living in agriculture. The ART Program addresses the lack of rehabilitation centers and lack of proper counselling for dropouts and the unemployed in the area. With support from CBM, the program educates children on prevention, encourages youth towards a stable income and healthy lifestyles, and assists addicted individuals towards healing through counselling and an introduction to the love of Christ.

How We Are Helping
ABC in partnership with CBM offers several prevention and rehabilitation programs for individuals struggling with addiction:
Awareness and Training Programs
Community leaders are equipped to effectively prevent and address alcohol addictions and resulting problems. Further, awareness programs for children and youth are implemented to prevent addiction and encourage healthy living.
Detoxification Program
Participants attend an eight-day detoxification camp followed by a three-day retreat for beneficiaries, spouses and mentors where the value of life and the importance of clean living is promoted.
Income Generating Programs for Youth
Vulnerable youth are given financial assistance and guidance in starting income-generating programs such as poultry rearing.

The Impact of Our Work
With his wife and two children, Mr. Bendangsunep lives in Mokokchung. Most residents living in this district of Northeastern India do not experience financial security. Mr. Bendangsunep’s main income came from his work as a daily wage labourer. With an alcohol addiction and limited income, he and his family struggled to have their basic needs met. Mr. Bendangsunep was able to overcome his addiction through the help of the church and the support required to start a poultry business. He has earned respect in his community, manages his responsibilities diligently and participates in the church and group meetings.
