FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                                                                                    June 27, 2018

Mississauga, Ontario – Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) is excited to announce that Global Field Staff Elie and Mireille Haddad have been appointed as Team Leaders for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, effective immediately. The newly-created MENA team is CBM’s response to the growing needs in the area due to ongoing conflict. The Haddads will continue to carry out their current responsibilities in addition to their new role.

Based in Lebanon, the Haddads have served with CBM since 2005. Elie is President of the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary (ABTS) in Beirut, which equips church leaders for ministry throughout the entire Arabic-speaking world. Mireille works primarily with female refugees in Lebanon who have fled from Syria and other war-affected countries. Both Elie and Mireille grew up in Lebanon and immigrated to Canada near the end of a 15-year civil war.

Team Leaders have an important role within CBM. They help the team reach organizational ends by directing, coaching and empowering our Field Staff, and assisting our national partners in the accomplishment of our shared objectives. They promote their sphere of ministry both on the field and here in Canada, and they help shape the agenda for the future.

Says CBM Executive Director Terry Smith, “Our Leadership Team recently met for a ‘visioning’ session, and we identified the MENA region as our highest priority. I can’t think of more gifted and faithful leaders for our ministries there than Elie and Mireille Haddad. When others have fled the region due to conflicts and tensions, or simply tired themselves out from the slow-going of Christian mission in the Middle East, the Haddads have embraced their calling, served with tireless love and a generous spirit.  As I travel globally on behalf of CBM, the reputation that ABTS has acquired under Elie’s leadership is a well-known fact. We are honoured to have the Haddads bring those same skills and zeal to our partnerships as Team Leaders in the MENA region.”
