For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes
in him shall not perish but have everlasting life… John 3:16

If there was ever a year in which we have been tested how truly willing we are to follow Jesus into a fractured
world, it might be this one.

It has been difficult to love our world this year, hasn’t it?

From pandemic to protests and violence, most of us feel weary of the present and uncertain about the future. Yet this verse reminds us that God loves the world despite its brokenness. He has already given us the ultimate gift of love and symbol of hope through his own sacrifice.
This Christmas let us remind the world that we are bearers of hope. Together as God’s people, we can offer the gift of life wherever hope needs to be restored. All over the world, CBM continues to partner with local churches to do just that. No pandemic or crisis can stop the work of the Spirit around the world.

Will you partner with us in offering the gift of hope in places of desperation and despair this Christmas?

I would like you to meet three people whose lives are a living testimony to what can happen when hope is made real through practical assistance offered in Jesus’ name. Their transformed lives are a testimony to a God who cares for this world, as well as the generosity of his people who demonstrate this through their own words and deeds.

Pilli* is a young woman from Kakinada, India. With an equivalent of a sixth-grade education and living in generational poverty, Pilli and other women like her in the community are not valued. However, due to a women’s empowerment program from her local church she learned how to tailor clothing, a vital and practical skill. This has not only helped her family financially, but it has also boosted her confidence and expectations for the future. Pilli hopes that she can one day receive further education and be better able to provide for her family. Pilli says,

“I am very grateful to Canadian Baptists for their dedication and commitment towards women empowerment, which impacts women like me. They are bringing a new hope and bright future to our lives.”

Far away, Najwa* and her husband and three young children live in a refugee camp in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon. They are Syrian refugees who were forced to flee once shelling and slaughter made them prisoners in their own home. Now living in a tent even through harsh winters, life has been hard for Najwa. Her family’s lifeline has been the two food boxes she receives from the local church each month. They have also experienced their loving care through the gifts of mattresses and blankets, milk and diapers, and soap, tissues and hand sanitizer to protect their family from COVID-19. She says,

“Although we have nothing left in Syria and our houses are destroyed, our dream is still that things will get better there so we can go back to our country, our land, and our families.”

Like Najwa and Pilli, Argentine* has already lived through much hardship though she is only 16 years old. In a rural area of Rwanda, Argentine and her family live with little access to water and food, due to poverty and harsh conditions. Argentine had to drop out of school because
her family could not afford school fees and supplies, but through the Orphans and Vulnerable Children project at her local church, now school fees, materials, trainings and even mentorship is provided for her, which she really appreciates. Argentine is back in school again, and this project has helped her regain hope for the future from the love and care she has experienced through this difficult year.

Pilli, Najwa and Argentine, have all received the gift of life transformation. There are many more stories like theirs because our God is constantly at work, and will always offer his embrace of love, peace, and light in this world.

As we continue to learn to “rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18), let us find ways not only to honour God, but to love and bless others in all circumstances – even in troubled times such as these.

This Christmas, will you join me in sharing the gift of life with those who need it most?

In these uncertain times, thank you for helping to show people around the world that they are loved and cared for by God at all times.

We appreciate your generosity. May you continue to experience love and joy this Christmas.
