An outbreak of Ebola has occurred in Democratic Republic of Congo’s North Kivu Province – one of CBM’s main project areas in the country. Health officials suspect that Ebola has claimed the lives of at least 33 people, as they each died from unidentified hemorrhagic fevers. Our church partner, the Baptist Church in Central Africa (CBCA), has sent out an urgent prayer request concerning this situation. Due to the instability of the region and its proximity to borders, health officials are concerned that the virus may be difficult to contain.
The current outbreak comes days after health officials declared that a previous outbreak in another part of the country was contained. Please pray that health officials will be able to successfully access the affected areas and bring life-saving support. CBCA is equipping churches, schools and other public places with hygiene kits. They are also leading awareness campaigns within local communities to prevent the virus from spreading. Please pray that this process would go smoothly and that urgent medical assistance would be provided. Also, please pray for the 134 CBCA churches affected by this crisis, which includes more than 26,000 members. May God bring healing, comfort and peace during this difficult time.
Your prayers and support are needed!
