On September 1, 2019 category 5 Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the northern part of the Bahamas, largely affecting the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama. Many people are left without adequate shelter as houses and buildings are damaged. Wells are contaminated due to flooding, leaving locals without much access to clean water. There have been some casualties.
The global Baptist family recently held the Baptist World Alliance annual gathering in the Bahamas just a few weeks ago. Everton Jackson, General Secretary of the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship, shares, “… support will be needed to aid the restoration of the affected countries.”
Through Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) you can financially support crisis response in the Bahamas.
CBM, as an active member of the Baptist Forum for Aid & Development (BFAD) is in contact with agencies in its global network*.
BFAD is assisting the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship and the Bahamas Baptist Convention in responding to the situation.
We are grateful for the faithful response of our Canadian Baptist family in times of emergency and to represent your compassion to the world.
* Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Transform Aid International, Brazilian Baptist Convention, German Baptist Relief & Development and BMS World Mission each have active field staff in the affected countries.
