Following Typhoon Idai on March 14, Mozambique has declared a state of emergency and is appealing for international help.
This area of the continent has a special place in the hearts of Canadian Baptists. Former Global Field Staff, Andy and Rebecca DesRoches and Dorothy Sowden served in Beira for a number of years.
Through Canadian Baptist Ministries you can financially support rescue and aid work in Mozambique and the neighbouring countries of Malawi and Zimbabwe affected by the massive flooding following the typhoon.
Canadian Baptist Ministries, as an active member of the Baptist Forum for Aid & Development (BFAD) is in direct contact with agencies in its global network*.
BFAD is assisting the Baptist Convention of Mozambique (CBM). Together they are forming an emergency team to respond to the situation. BFAD personnel are en route to Mozambique to assist CBM as the magnitude of the disaster significantly beyond their local capacities.
We are grateful for the faithful response of our Canadian Baptist family in times of emergency and to represent your compassion to the world.
* Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Transform Aid International, Brazilian Baptist Convention, German Baptist Relief & Development and BMS World Mission each have active field staff in the affected countries.
