The Situation

In Mokokchung town, Nagaland in northern India, high rates of unemployment are badly affecting young people.Ā  There are very few available jobs in the area, which means that students graduating from high school or college have very few options for work; their futures are bleak.Ā  Many are struggling with mental health challenges and falling into addictions, because they feel they have no hope for a future.Ā Ā  In addition to the high unemployment rate, social unrest and other related problems are also on the rise.Ā Ā

CBMā€™s partnership with ABC is providing structure, training, and opportunities for recovered unemployed youth to produce organic processed fruit and vegetable products so they can earn an equitable wage to augment their familyā€™s income helping with basic needs such as food, clothing, and healthcare.Ā  These new employment opportunities are giving them hope for a better future.Ā

The Impact of Our Work

Moarenba was once an alcoholic.Ā  Although he has a B.Tech degree, he was still unable to secure an employment opportunity.Ā  So, with his frustration increasing, he started drinking more and lost control of his life.Ā  With the likelihood of becoming a successful individual with a good paying job becoming less and less, he lost all interest in searching for a decent Job.Ā  He was frustrated and depressed.Ā  With his new involvement in MITA, however, Moarenba has made a comeback in life and now has a positive outlook on life.Ā  He is determined to work hard and now has hope for a better future.Ā  He also wants to help others going through similar struggles as he did, to find meaningful and lasting work.Ā

ā€œI had no profession and was helpless, but this initiative inspired me to have value within me.ā€

Moamenla

ā€œMy parents were quiet upset when I failed to have a job but, now they are happy to see me actively involved in the initiative.Ā  I am ever grateful to God and to the initiative for giving me a meaning in my life.ā€
