The Situation

The Dominican Republic has a population of just over 10 million people and close to 85 percent of its inhabitants live in urban areas. Living in small rural and poor urban communities, many pastors are bi-vocational, working another job while ministering to their congregations to support their families. Impoverished areas in the Dominican Republic are not often able to financially support their local church. Pastors can be isolated and caught between the pressures of supporting their families and their local church. Further, many church leaders do not have access to ministerial and theological training or basic resources for their ministry. Care for pastors and their families, and the development of their ministerial competencies is a need for church leaders in the different regions of the Dominican Republic. IBAREDO and CBM offer training, mentorship, and financial support to strengthen the leadership of pastors, and the impact of local churches.

How We Are Helping

Together with CBM, IBAREDO supports church leaders in the Dominican Republic in these ways:

Transformative Conventions

Pastors can attend annual convention meetings where transportation, food and learning materials are provided.

Resources

Pastors are equipped with relevant training materials and resources that meet the needs of their local churches.

Pastoral Team Meetings

Made feasible possible through the provision of transportation, food and resources, meetings take place monthly and strengthen the pastoral teams in the North, East and Metropolitan regions.

The Impact of Our Work

Ignatius is a husband and father of three children and lives in the city of Santiago. Ignatius has the difficult task of managing his profession, his family and his role of pastor to his small congregation located in a rural mountainous city where transportation is difficult. At the age of 18, Ignatius was involved in ministry. After being out of ministry for years, he became involved with the Pastereo de Pastors project and began pastoring again and receives the support and mentorship to be efficient in his role of leading his congregation. With the implemented strategy of serving on pastoral teams, Ignatius rejoices in the rise of enthusiasm and involvement in his church.

“Pastors’ pastoral meetings have taught me how to work with people in my community. They have been of blessing, and with them and the materials received I have grown in my faith and in my ministry. God speaks to me through other experienced pastors”

Emelia Etienne

“Participants are receiving ongoing formation and are growing their skills as pastors. The program allows participants to serve in their community and put into practice what they have learned.”
