Soura Widows

CBM’s Empowerment of Soura Widows project equips widows in rural India to earn an income. Through microenterprise, savings support and training, nearly 80 widows are finding ways to break the cycle of poverty and better care for their children. Since the early 1900s, Canadian Baptists have been working among the Soura, a tribal people living in the remote regions of India’s Odisha State. Poverty, illiteracy and malnutrition are some of the challenges faced by the Soura community. Many of the widows who participate in the empowerment program are under the age of 40. Without the help of their husbands, they struggle to support their families through subsistence farming. Please pray for these widows as they seek alternative sources of income and care for their children. Pray that they would not be discouraged by their current circumstances, and that they would feel loved and accepted by their community. May the God of comfort encourage them during their time of need and give them grace for each day.
