This position is based out of CBM’s head office in Mississauga. We have a hybrid work model with 50% in-office time. CBM offers a generous benefits program, including health, dental, and wellness benefits, and enrollment in our pension plan with a 6% match on contributions.

The Team Lead, Content & Design is responsible for providing oversight and management to the creation, composition, development, distribution, and evaluation of CBM’s external communications and educational materials including print, online, and multi-media vehicles. The Team Lead will ensure consistency in messaging in all of CBM’s external communications and that the integrity of CBM’s brand is maintained throughout the organization.  The Team Lead, Content & Design reports to the Director, Canadian Partnerships.

Ministry Description and Responsibilities

Staff Management                                                                                                            20%

  • Lead the Communications team in the development and implementation of CBM’s annual communication plan while consistently aligning with CBM’s brand, values, and strategic imperatives
  • Supervise daily activities of departmental staff
  • Monitor individual projects and ensure deadlines are met
  • Manage staff performance, ensure proper metrics are in place, conduct performance reviews
  • Ensure skill development, coaching, and training opportunities are available as required.
  • Source and set outcomes for contractors/external vendors as needed to meet departmental outcomes

Writing                                                                                                 30%

  • Write and edit our quarterly print magazine, writing impact stories from field reports, creating web content, writing appeals, and fundraising campaigns. Writing scripts for videos and presentations.
  • Write, proof, and post web communications/news items and press releases.
  • Research topics and conduct interviews with internal and external stakeholders and plan and produce high-impact stories and content.

Communications Management                                                                                        30%

  • Work with the Creative Strategist to provide oversight to all printed, electronic, and audiovisual communication materials (includes appeals, CBM responding, videos, social media, etc.)
  • Meet regularly with Director, Canadian Partnerships to provide updates, review communications priorities, assess content appropriateness and risk to organization
  • Collaborate with the Creative Strategist setting predetermined themes for communication
  • Ensure ongoing communication such as public announcements, ministry updates, and press releases are distributed in a timely manner
  • Assist in determining priorities of promotional materials and assessing effectiveness
  • Ensure the website is maintained and content is up to date
  • Lead in establishing the design, content, and functionality of website in keeping with CBM’s brand
  • Coordinate with IT to ensure the technical support of website contents and donor access
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of approaches and initiate modifications to meet needs and/or match trends among users
  • Interface with other department managers to ensure coordination and accuracy of communication materials
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of various communication tools/products and make recommendations to Director/LT based on findings
  • Recommend communications annual budget and function with approved budget
  • Oversee CBM’s Social Media channels, ensuring CBM’s standards

Special Events:                                                                                                      10%

  • Oversee the coordination and development of presentations for regional gatherings and special events, including the production of associated communication vehicles

CBM Brand:                                                                                                      5%

  • Work with the Creative Strategist to ensure all materials are on brand.
  • Monitor the use of CBM’s brand in all external communication. e.g. usage of logos, style guides for writing, and audio-visual content, etc.
  • Review and monitor communications content for consistent and appropriate messaging that aligns with CBM’s values

Growth:                                                                                                                                5%

  • Attend CBM Chapels and contribute to the overall spiritual growth of the organization
  • Attend LT/Managers meetings as part of the Religious Order as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Must accept CBM’s Core Values (see www.cbmin.org)
  • Willing to sign off on CBM’s Community Covenant, Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest & Child Protection Policy
  • Active membership in a Canadian Baptist church required or willing to join a CB church.
  • Undergrad degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing or English and minimum of 5 years experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or fundraising strategies.
  • Previous experience managing a staff team an asset
  • Understanding of role of the fund development department in a non-profit organization including the revenue strategy mix e.g. planned giving, on-line, direct mail, etc.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of the use of social media in marketing and promotion
  • Familiar with Canadian Baptist Constituency an asset
  • Prior leadership within a Christian mission/community
  • Ability to take initiative with little supervision
  • Ability to mentor team members in wide range of cultural settings
  • Demonstrated ability in sound and current management and financial practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able and willing to travel within region, and to travel internationally 1-2 times a year if requested.
