Pray with Dennis Shierman

We live in challenging times. The poor and vulnerable find life most difficult. The biggest challenge in the world today is food and food insecurity. It is increasingly becoming a humanitarian crisis. We face it here in Canada as well, with rising food costs and availability. It is even more challenging for those that have to deal with the consequences of complex conditions like climate change, a lack of water, natural disasters, political upheaval, violent conflict, along with economic disruptions. Often all these things cause humanitarian crises that contribute to millions of people going hungry daily. The lack of being able to access food can be a considerable challenge if one is fleeing because of an unsafe place, living with drought or weather conditions that come and wreak havoc. It is women and children that face the most suffering in a time of crisis. By working together to help support farmers in rural areas to rebuild fields and replant with good seeds, they are able to feed their families and affect the community. Grow Hope is a program that brings the need to feed the hungry with rural and urban Canadians together to respond to an enormous need. Farmers in Canada work together to grow crops to sell, and the proceeds are matched through the Canadian Food Grains Bank. It is “A Christian Response to Hunger” CBM is partnering with 5 Grow Hope projects in Canada. One of these is fascinating and unique. 7 church partners along with CBM and 6 farmers throughout Saskatchewan. Funds raised through Grow Hope Saskatchewan help support people worldwide with emergency food supplies and long-term food security. They are rallying together as local farmers who are growing Hope on a global scale. Deuteronomy 15:11 “For the poor will never cease to be in the land. Therefore, I command you: You must open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land. Hope is being restored, and people are being fed. Lives have been and continue to be changed by acts of generosity.

  • For all of our partner farmers as they respond with generosity.
  • Pray for the weather. As always, this is a significant factor in the yields of the crops.
  • Pray that other farmers may be encouraged by those that are involved in Grow Hope projects. May they be moved and encouraged to join the team to help make a difference.
  • Pray for those that do not have enough to eat in the world today.
  • Pray for CBM and Canadian Food Grains Bank as we help to coordinate these projects and know how to respond to the many needs in the world.
