Mississauga, Ontario – Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) celebrates with Rev. Dr. John Chan, Director of International Partnerships, as he returns to pastoral ministry. He will conclude his time with CBM to become the Senior Pastor of Logos Baptist Church Mississauga, effective August 2024.
John reflects, “It has been a privilege to serve the Lord at CBM these past 16 years. I am grateful to God and to CBM for allowing me to serve as a Field Staff and later, on the Leadership Team. I learned a lot about the key principles of Integral Mission, partnership, and the local church. [And] I was blessed to bear witness to the impact that healthy ministry, led by the local churches of our International Partners using both word and deed, have had on the most vulnerable.”
Originally from Shanghai, China, John emigrated to Canada with his family as a young teenager, settling in Winnipeg. John and his wife, Ruth, began serving as CBM Field Staff in 2008. They subsequently helped lead the growth of the organization’s then-largest and fastest developing ministry, focusing on Chinese diaspora and university students in Germany, and the mobilization of Chinese Baptist churches in Canada.
In 2017, they returned to Canada for John to begin serving as Director of International Partnerships, providing leadership to Field Staff and programs around the world. He also provided guidance to the development of mission strategy within the organization and walked alongside our global church partners.
Jennifer Lau, Executive Director, says, “CBM’s community of staff and partners around the world has had the great joy of working alongside John Chan for the past 16 years, first as he and his wife, Ruth, helped to shape Chinese Ministries as Team Leaders, and then subsequently when he returned to Canada to oversee our international work. During that time, he has helped provide strategic focus to key programs, expanded CBM’s network of global partnerships, and contributed to the overall leadership of the organization in ways that transcended his job description. While we will miss him as a colleague, we are excited to see that God has called him back to pastoral ministry. We know that his leadership will strengthen the reach and witness of Logos Baptist Church, as it seeks to be the hands and feet of Christ in its community.”
