Hi – I’m Laura Lee Bustin. Darrell and I are Global Field Staff, living in Kigali, Rwanda. We work with CBM’s partners in Africa.
Have you ever climbed a mountain? I (Darrell) remember climbing mountains several times over the years. One of those experiences happened during my studies in New Zealand (1992-93). Matthew (a cousin of Laura Lee’s) and I climbed straight up the steep side of a mountain.
Have you ever had an event that you were building towards for a long time? That is what happened to us last December when our CBM Africa Team hosted the Africa Vennture Conference. But first, let me rewind the tape briefly.
Hi. I am Darrell Bustin. My wife, Laura Lee, and I live in Rwanda and serve as global field staff in east Africa. Today, we would particularly ask you to pray for CBM’s partners in this part of the world.
While we normally think of Christmas as the season for giving and receiving gifts, over the last couple of months we have been on both the giving and receiving end of some gifts that we want to share with you.
It has been a while since we checked in with everyone. So we thought it was time to get people caught up with all that has been happening. 2022 has been the year of the suitcase! We began the year in Rwanda, with Darrell making quick trips to Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was wonderful to spend time with long-time partners such as CBCA (Congo) and ACC&S (Kenya), especially after travel had been so limited in 2020 and 2021 with the pandemic.
The Bustins joined CBM in 2002 to teach at the Kalimantan Theological Seminary in Pontianak, Indonesia, where they helped to train and mentor future leaders for local churches. They moved to Rwanda in August 2012 to work with CBM’s church partner, the Association of Baptist Churches of Rwanda.
The year 2021 was very much like its predecessor – full of COVID-19 twists and turns. This led to lots of challenges for CBM and its partner in Rwanda, the Association of Rwandan Baptist Churches (AEBR). Many activities were planned for this year through the different projects which CBM and AEBR do together.
Since the beginning of 2021, like so many other affected by this global pandemic, we have lived through long periods of limited movement and even three weeks of full lockdown. But we are happy to finally be able to say - or even sing! - On the Road Again!!
