BUGANA Livelihood Center
BUGANA Livelihood Center, a livelihood initiative of Kabuganaan Philippines Ministries (KPM), in collaboration with the association of Baptist churches in Capiz province, Philippines, aims to improve the lives of vulnerable women, out-of-school youth, and their families by providing support, training, and equipment, and by establishing equitable and sustainable markets for their products to be sold. Support this project through financial contributions and prayer.
The Situation
In many rural indigenous communities throughout Capiz Province, families live off their land, eating what it produces and selling some to earn money for other basic needs. They struggle to make ends meet, because the money they earn from farming is insufficient, often lacking funds for food and other essential items. in the urban poor communities of Roxas City, of Capiz province, life is also challenging. The men, who often work in the fishing industry, are gone for weeks and come home with meagre earnings. Women are left to raise the children on their own. In some cases, husbands/fathers abandon their families to seek a better life elsewhere. There is also a high number of out-of-school youth forced to drop out of school because families can’t afford their education, or they are needed to earn income for their families.
CBM’s partnership with KPM provides structure, training, and opportunities for vulnerable women and out-of-school youth to produce goods and provide services within their communities. This work allows them to earn an equitable wage to augment their family’s income and helps with basic needs such as food, clothing, and education.

How We Are Helping
Here are ways BUGANA Livelihood Center is impacting the lives of vulnerable women and out-of-school youth, along with their families in Capiz Province, Philippines:
Providing skills training
Vulnerable women and out-of-school youth interested in being involved with Bugana are invited to join local self-help groups. They receive training on producing products or providing needed services within their community and beyond.
Providing Equipment
Equipment and tools, such as sewing machines, coffee roasting equipment, and woodworking tools, are provided by Bugana.
Providing a space for products to be sold and distributed
Bugana purchases products from these self-help groups at an equitable rate and then sells them through their retail store in Roxas City and online within the Philippines.
The Impact of Our Work
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Jethro was a seafarer working on board a cruise ship but became unemployed because of the pandemic. He could not return to his work because of restrictions imposed by different countries in the world. His unemployment caused financial difficulty for him and his family. Now, he is the manager of the Bugana Livelihood Centre. With good skills, a lot of experience and a high commitment to the mission work, Jethro is an inspiring manager. He helps the project run smoothly and operate according to its defined goals and objectives. Jethro aims to inspire people within the team, the communities he serves, and the churches he visits. He is thrilled to be involved with BUGANA Livelihood Center as part of his dedication to serving God.
