Pray with the Dycks

A warm hello to all of you who faithfully pray for CBM’s ministry. We are Bill and Janice Dyck. Some personal news we have to report on is that our son Jonathan was married to Katrina Duberry on September 17th. Bill officiated. The whole day was a real blessing.

Important news from the field is that the Emmanuel Foundation, which focuses on aiding children in the red-light district of Cochabamba, has recently started construction on expanded facilities. This is an answer to prayer as the new space will allow more children and mothers, to be helped out of an undesirable situation and give them a future. At the beginning of August, Bill had the opportunity to visit partners in Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic. With the help of National Field Staff Byron Velasquez, Bill conducted 6 training events for Discipleship and Pastoring of Pastors. A total of more than 150 pastors and spouses participated in these events, and over 30 signed up for follow-up. So, the challenge now is to start up new Zoom groups with those who signed up. So far, follow-up is being arranged for groups of leaders in each of these countries.

A presentation on the Mission of God at the Convention of Baptist Churches of Guatemala (CIBG) seminary has also opened the door to teaching an online course there in November. The next most important event coming up is a mission trip to Cuba from October 21-31. We plan to focus on setting up Discipleship and Pastoring of Pastors groups there, and meetings with key leaders have already begun.

Prayer Points:

Please pray:

  • Pray for a peaceful transition of power in Guatemala following the elections in June. The new government is to be formed in January of 2024. Pray that all will accept the results of the election.
  • Pray for El Salvador, a country and people struggling to control gang activity, that justice will be done with compassion.
  • Pray for the follow-up groups that Bill is starting with groups of leaders in Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic. Pray also for the presentations and potential groups in Cuba.
  • Pray for Goretty, who heads up the Emmanuel Foundation, as she seeks to lead the expansion of Emmanuel’s ministry. Pray for similar CBM ministries in Bolivia, like La Casa de la Amistad and Jireh.
  • Pray for CBM Global Field Staff: Bruno Kathleen Soucy in Guatemala; Kathryn Scott as she transitions to the Dominican Republic; Tim and Kallie Hutton in Bolivia; and for National Field Staff, Byron Velasquez, and national partners.
