Impact Story: Growing Something Good
by Byron Vélasquez

Pastor Desiderio is a pastor of the Kekchi Mayan ethnic group in northern Guatemala. He has been a pastor for 10 years, and has recently been receiving training in how to impact his community through the business skills training project from CBM. This project, based in La Mojarra, in Fray Bartolome de las casas, equips young people with the training to establish their own business ventures, and provides tools for them to get started with pig farming, sewing, or mechanical repairs.
We have seen how pastor Desiderio’s involvement has strengthened the community, as he encourages the youth involved in the program to see the opportunities they have for growth, both in their businesses and spiritually.
Meanwhile, pastor Desiderio has himself been receiving training in integral mission, coaching, and we’ve invited him to be part of networks in the area. He’s started to see how the gospel message he preaches is strengthened by the community work, and he wants to continue seeing his community transformed.

It is amazing to see the conviction in Pastor Desiderio and his way of getting involved with the community, and we continue to encourage and empower Pastor Desiderio as a servant leader in his community to continue impacting his community with the gospel of Jesus as he is doing so far and be a model for other Kekchi pastors.
