Thank you so much for praying. The Summit on Discipleship in Bogotá surpassed my expectations. Glory to God!
Personally, a Jonah moment stands out. I have weekly meetings with pastors from five or more countries, so when it came time for countries to plan for follow-up meetings for 2026 they didn’t know where to place me.Bolivia? Guatemala? El Salvador? There were only two of there from Canada. They placed us with the Americans. I didn’t want to go. God had to do a work in my heart, but I went – a little bit like a robot on autopilot – and I was welcomed by a very supporting group of American ministry, church, and Latino leaders.
Long story short, they considered me a good process thinker and want me on a group of four that will begin by determining the strategic purpose of follow up meetings in the U.S. and Canada.
The above was totally unexpected. What was expected was that my team of leaders from five countries would gel as a team, would make new friends and connections, would have a broader vision for discipleship, and come away energized and motivated to renew and revive the church. All of these expectations were met as well. New experts in discipleship are working with my people. Bless them! My weekly meetings have already begun, with new energy and motivation. Each participant has written me a testimony of how they were impacted. Of course the real fruit will be visible down the road and I have faith that real fruit in the form of church renewal and revival there will be, as pastors are renewed and revived and given networks and resources to make it happen. Thanks again.
Note:
- Here’s a link to an article recently published on the event (in Spanish, sorry.)
- Here’s a quick summary of the event:
Executive Summary of the Latin American Summit of Disciplers – On March 25-28, 2025, in Bogota, Colombia, God brought together 470 strategic leaders from 22 Ibero-American countries including the U.S. and Canada. The countries with the highest representation were Colombia (88), Ecuador (55), Venezuela (51), Paraguay (48), Brazil (40), Costa Rica (30), Mexico (29), USA (21), Bolivia (20), Chile (18), Peru (17) and the Dominican Republic (17). The Summit was attended by various denominations, four of them being strategic allies: the Assemblies of God (78), Baptists (61), Church of God of Prophecy (33) and the Christian and Missionary Alliance (16). In addition, 15 discipleship ministries were also continental strategic allies see here.
Our cause/vision is to reverse the great “dechurching” in Latin America. We lost an estimated 39 million members during the two years of COVID. Surveys reveal that for every church that is growing since the end of COVID, two are decreasing. We arrived prepared for a great four-day event. We came out very different! We are committed to collaborating to strengthen and initiate movements of healthy, disciple-leading, multiplying churches in all of our countries. We understand that the entire past, including this Summit, is only a preface.
We have a megaproject in three phases, each phase paving the way for the next phase: 2026 – A Pre-Summit in each country for 70-120 strategic leaders 2027 – A Summit of 500-1000 strategic leaders in each country 2028 – A Summit in each city and main denomination of each country. In 2026, the most solid countries will raise a strong core of leaders in those neighbouring countries that do not yet have the capacity to hold a Pre-Summit. They, God willing, will begin the three phases a year later with a Pre-Summit in their countries.
Keep praying for:
- Encouragement for those who attended. After the high of this kind of event it’s easy to have an Elijah moment, a time of tiredness and discouragement wondering what’s next. We are frequently reminded that everything in the past is only a preface to what God’s is yet to do. Pray for continued encouragement, motivation and energy. An anointing for continued ministry.
- Two of my participants could not make it, one failed to get her visa, another had an family emergency. Pray for them as they regret not being able to attend but whom we continue to keep in the loop.
- Pray for upcoming planning meetings for country follow-up events. This is only the beginning and we live in a strategic time, where God’s “kingdom” purposes have great potential to shape the world.
Thanks again.
Blessings. Solito no! We are not alone!
