An Active in Mission Update

Hello everyone. The last time Laura Lee & I wrote to you, we were preparing to “get active” once again as part of CBM’s annual Active in Mission (AiM) campaign. We thought it was time to give you an update.

The Mission: Every day, around the world, a significant percentage of people go hungry. The causes are many: economic downturns, wars and violence, mental health issues, old patterns and habits, extreme weather, etc. The problem is so massive, we can be tempted to throw up our hands in despair, paralyzed by discouragement and hopelessness. However, there is another option. Even if we can’t “solve” the whole problem, we can become Active in doing our part to make a difference in the lives of some of those people. That is why CBM is joining hands with our Baptist denominational partners across the country (CBWC, CBOQ, UÉBFC, CBAC), encouraging people to get Active in order to increase awareness and to raise money to battle food insecurity in Canada as well as 13 other countries around the world. The goal is $100,000.

Update on the Bustin’s Active Goal: Once again, the two of us joined in with this worthwhile initiative. We committed to walking 20 km in Mill Creek Nature Park between July 7-18. And the good news is that we were able to achieve our Mission ! It’s true that, due to some health issues, our final walk had to be postponed a couple of weeks. But on August 4, we completed our final outing, reaching the 20.29 km mark … thankfully just a few days before the woods were closed due to fire risk.

Here are a few pictures of the amazing things we saw during our walks in the park. If you would like to see more pictures from our walks in the park, you can check out our Facebook posts (https://www.facebook.com/darrelllauralee.bustin).

Update on the Bustin’s Mission Goal: This is our fourth time being a part of AiM. We have always been amazed at the generous people who have chosen to participate by supporting us in whatever activity we were doing. So, we set a goal to raise $3000 as our part toward the overall AiM target of $100,000. And we are thrilled to report that, on July 29th, we reached our target! This was even before we were able to complete the 20 km. Talk about keeners! Way to go. We are grateful for each person who chose to get Active by supporting our walk.

However, even though we have reached our goals, the overall Mission still needs our help. We know that each year in the past, we have actually surpassed our goal which has been a support to CBM reaching the $100,000 target. That means the opportunity is still there if you would like to get Active in Mission. All you need to do is go to our AiM page and follow the instructions provided (https://www.activeinmission.ca/p/darrell-laura-lee-bustin). Who knows what we can do together? In 2021, we actually reached the $5000 mark – a very long way from our original, humble goal of $600! Together, we can help more people put an end to hunger!
