Greetings!
We have been busy traveling around the world, to Europe, the Caribbean, Canada, and back again to Bolivia.
Global Conference
We have been with CBM for over a decade but the nature of working within a global organization has meant few opportunities to meet our colleagues in person.
For the first time in 15 years, CBM gathered all staff together for a global conference. It was a true joy to connect face-to-face in Germany, to learn from diverse perspectives, and dream together as we look to the future.
Caribbean Sun
More recently we’ve had the opportunity to visit our partners in Cuba and the Dominican Republic. With a perspective from both Canada and Bolivia, it is eye-opening to experience other Latin cultures and see how faith communities are responding within their part of the world. Some missional churches in Cuba serve as pharmacies or provide their neighbors clean filtered water. Others in Dominican Republic facilitate community gardens and children’s programs. Repeatedly, we witnessed churches creatively navigate their complex realities, all while showing Christ’s love.
We’re excited about the opportunity to collaborate more closely with these partners in the future.
Cross Canada Trek
Our next adventure was a long-awaited visit to Canada. After our home assignment in 2018, political tension, the pandemic lockdown, and then adoption paperwork kept us from returning. After seven years we were finally able to reconnect with supporting churches spanning six provinces.
Over the course of our visit, we had the joy of connecting with congregations from British Columbia to Quebec, as well as attending the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada Assembly. It was such a rich time sharing about our ministry, listening to others, and catching a glimpse of the heartbeat of the Canadian church. Our prayers remain with you in Canada as the church seeks to live out its identity as both beautifully diverse and deeply united as the body of Christ.
Back Home in Bolivia
We arrived back just as Bolivia marked its 200th anniversary, and two weeks before an election. This followed years of political tension between past and present leaders, all amid ongoing economic challenges.
In Bolivia, a candidate must win 50% of the vote or lead by at least 10 percentage points to form government. The two frontrunners, Rodrigo Paz and Jorge Quiroga, finished close enough to one another to require a runoff election, which will be held in October. Notably, Quiroga previously served as president, as did Paz’s father. Both candidates are significantly further right than the preceding socialist government which has held power for the past two decades. Whatever the outcome, this will be a significant shift for the country. Please pray for this upcoming election in October.
Prayer Requests
- Praise God for the time we had with partnering churches, as well as friends and family in Canada.
- Pray for our transition back into work and life in Bolivia.
- Pray for our Latin America team as we meet together for a retreat in Guatemala this September.
- Pray for Bolivia’s October runoff election and a peaceful transfer of power.
Blessings,
Tim & Kallie
