Greetings from Bolivia!
We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people… In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.
– Colossians 1:3-4,6
Cultivating Young Leaders
Our Latin American team has been intentionally building connections among partners across the region, and we recently saw the fruit of these efforts through a course for young adults focused on creation care. This initiative brought together three partners: Centro Esdras (Guatemala), which facilitated the course, and participants from young adult groups in both Bolivia and the Dominican Republic.
Many young people are passionate about caring for the environment but have not had the opportunity to explore this calling through a theological lens. Over the course of two months, participants engaged with the biblical foundations of creation care and considered how the church can actively take part. The cohort is now discerning practical steps to live this out within their own communities.
Celebrating and Equipping
We are often invited to visit churches across Bolivia to help train and equip congregations, frequently in connection with anniversary celebrations, which hold deep cultural significance.
These events can span several days and blend teaching and preaching with hands-on workshops, times of reflection on the church’s history, and opportunities to cast vision for the future. They are also marked by shared meals, singing, gift-giving, and joyful celebration.
One aspect we enjoy is seeing past generations honoured while the next generation is equipped for ministry. At a recent 50th anniversary celebration, it was meaningful to watch children present thank-you gifts to some of the church’s founding members—a beautiful expression of gratitude and continuity.
It is a joy to come alongside churches as they reimagine their ministry with fresh perspective, equip their people to both disciple others and grow as disciples themselves, and discern a renewed vision for the years ahead.
New Chapter for Bolivia
Bolivia has entered a new political chapter following the 2025 national election. The initial results did not have a sufficient majority to determine a leader, so a runoff election was held later between the two front-runners. For the first time in nearly two decades, leadership shifted away from the Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) party, electing Rodrigo Paz Pereira of the Christian Democratic Party as president.
Several months into the new administration, political division remains high and economic instability continues to motivate protests. Gas prices have nearly doubled, while inflation has affected most goods and services.
The shift of power was immediately evident with the release of former interim president Jeanine Áñez from prison, while outgoing president Luis Arce has been detained as part of ongoing legal proceedings. These developments reflect the country’s complex and changing context, and continue to underscore the need for justice, transparency, and reconciliation.
